An emerging Indian designer, Sruti Dalmia (she/her) is making a name on the global front for her eponymous label that marries the best of North-East Indian and South-East Asian influences.
A proud ‘Made in India’ brand, we make sure ‘Designed in India’ and ‘Made in India’ is synonymous, and we present this personal interpretation of our Indian craft culture with a lot of love to the world.
Born into a Bengali family in Kolkata, Dalmia is inspired by her everyday activities and her life spent across several countries – India, England, Singapore and Myanmar amongst others – to breathe life into her designs. Traditional artistry is transformed into modern-day luxuriant easy-to-wear ensembles, each sporting an inimitable story of its own. The brand has been featured on multiple editorials and magazines, and recently showcased its formal debut with its A/W ’21 collection at London Fashion Week 2021. Dalmia’s collections are produced responsibly in well-regulated quantities to respect the environment and her craftsmen’s capacities and culture.
The product range is versatile: From light summer florals in delicate silhouettes, to pliant and protean winter apparel, all ensembles are introduced as capsule collections for the conscious consumer. Each collection comes from extensive research and development to bring new products previously unseen in the market with an aim to create silhouettes flattering to women of diverse backgrounds.
Along with two collections introduced annually – Autumn/Winter and Spring/Summer – the label also features a resort line and a pre-fall collection.
For Spring/Summer 2022, Sruti Dalmia delves into the kaleidoscopic heritage of Indian weaves to bring to women across the world polished ensembles with a sense of comfort that only pure handloom can bestow.
The eponymous label commences with the new weaves and artisanry synonymous with the region of Bengal and explores the craftsmanship of other provinces within the Indian subcontinent to produce exquisite summer looks that travel impeccably from morning to night. Sophisticated silhouettes – dresses, skirts, summer capes, pantsuits, cocktail attires – display pure hand embroidered and hand woven techniques in a sea of colours: neutral white tones and soft beiges coalesce into cool blues and greens. Warm and bright fuchsia and salmons also make their presence felt adding to the whimsical feel of a feminine summer to be relished anywhere in the world. Hand embroidered subtle additions adds the final glamorous touch to the garments.
True to the brand’s identity, a host of handmade sustainable weaves, including Dalmia’s ubiquitous and favoured cotton silk have been produced. Sleek satins match soft linens and linen silks, jamawar silks marry cotton and silk. Yarn-dyed fabrics have been produced responsibly to form vibrant assemblages that stand true to the testament of slow fashion.
Sruti Dalmia’s collections are stocked with retailers across the globe.
